WATCH: Dancing in high heels freak you out? This guy dances with such finesse, it’ll blow your mind
Yanis Marshall was one of the finalists on Britain’s Got Talent in 2014, and has now found fame on social media as ‘the male dancer in high heels’.
The word gender can trigger endless debates and discussions today, all thanks to a world that is increasingly becoming vocal about the stereotypical roles and notions attached to each sex. Be it any situation, men are always supposed to be strong and forthcoming, while women are expected to be meek and submissive.
Which is why this story is important. Yanis Marshall, a French choreographer and dancer, became popular after his stint in the 2014 edition of Britain’s Got Talent. He was one of the finalists on the show and has now found fame on social media as ‘the male dancer in high heels’. Marshall oozes confidence and charm as he breaks into some serious moves in his heels and while at it, he is also giving it back straight and good to the gender roles that patriarchy has bestowed on society.
Though Marshall is probably just following his passion with a lot of confidence, history has shown it takes immense courage and effort to carve your own identity while the world is out there ready to judge you. Reportedly, the dancer has been called ‘effeminate’ because all his dance videos show him and other male dancers in his troupe, dancing in pointed high heels, with not so much as even a stagger.
And as is evident from all his dance videos, he continues to enthral his audience, who going by their many Facebook comments absolutely adore him! People have called his movements “sensual and delicate” and in the same breath, wished him the best!
