One of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals in the country, Navratri refers to the nine auspicious nights during which goddess Durga and her nine forms are worshipped. The festival is celebrated twice a year, one during the beginning of autumn and second right before Dussehra and Diwali, at the onset of the winters right before the year ends. The celebrations involve fasting for nine days, when the devotees abstain from consuming meat and alcohol. Not just that, onions, garlic, grains and pulses too are avoided at this time. Many eat light meals that mostly comprises of ingredients like sabudana, kuttu ka atta, amaranth, singhare ka atta, fruits and vegetables, etc. The food made duringthis time are low on spices and high in fibre and nutrient content. But it doesn’t mean they are any less delicious. Fasting during Navratri doesn’t necessarily involves eating food that do not appeal to your taste buds.
