According to report published by an English daily, the main kingpin of the 1993 Bombay terror attack Tiger Memon called up his family in Mumbai on July 30, hours before his brother Yakub was hanged.

Tiger had a heart to heart conversation with his mother. According to the report, Tiger spoke of taking revenge for his brother Yakub’s death. This raised alarm among security forces as a retaliatory action can’t be ruled out.

A Mumbai police team recorded the entire conversation. Tiger along with Dawood Ibrahim orchestrated a series of bomb blasts in Mumbai which led to the death of 257 civilians. Yakub who provided logistics and other support was recently hanged after his plea for mercy was turned down by the President and the highest court of the law.

But clearly Tiger Memon is not impressed by the entire chain of events. Around 5.35 am on July 30, Tiger called up the Memon household. It was merely half an hour after the Supreme Court had refused to postpone Yakub’s hanging. According to the report, an unidentified person received the calls. After exchanging courtesies, Tiger asked the phone to be given to his mother. His mother was initially reluctant to speak according to the news report but later consented.

Hanifa Memon was reportedly sobbing heavily throughout the conversation while Tiger tried to console her by saying that he will take revenge. However, this didn’t go down well with Hanifa who asked her son to stop the cycle of violence. According to the recorded transcript, Hanifa goes on to say Tiger that she can’t bear losing more people having already lost Yakub.

The call reportedly lasted around three minutes and was made over VOIP. However, according to the report, Mumbai police has been unable to trace the IP from where the call was made. On record though, the officials are not confirming this interaction. The newspaper quoted additional Chief Secretary (Home) as saying,”Neither the Maharashtra DGP nor the central agencies have given us any such reports”.
