The IPL 10 auctions didn’t disappoint and had plenty of surprise picks to keep the fans on edge as the franchisees gave final touches to their squads. The teams, in all, spent around Rs. 91.45 crores in just six hours and around 30 odd crores of those were spent on just four players. Here are the top picks for this season’s auctions:
Team Wise Top Five Picks
DD spent Rs. 14.50 crores in what seems like a balanced auction for the team. DD now have five wicketkeeper batsmen and seem to have almost filled up their weak-spots with good enforcements in this auction.
The Lions spent Rs. 3.85 crores and bagged Jason Roy for Rs. 1cr. Apart from some good uncapped players which were spotted by Mohammed Kaif for them, the Gujarat Lions looks like a well-settled side to take on bigger teams.
Kings XI Punjab
Punjab had the guts to go for the big guns in this year’s auctions, which is unlike anything we have seen from them in years before. With Varun Aaron, Eoin Morgan and Martin Guptill, KXIP had a productive auction day.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR desperately needed some good quicks and they spent a lot of their purse doing just that. With Boult, Woakes and Coulter-Nile, KKR seemed to have found the perfect pace-spin balance for their squad.
Rising Pune Supergiants
Pune’s strategy to go all out and buy Stokes stumped everyone in the room. They have spent Rs. 14.50 crores on the English all-rounder and how he performs in the IPL will be up for scrutiny given his staggering price-tag.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB spent Rs. 12 Crores on Tymal Mills who impressed all in the recent India-Eng T20I series. Other than that, RCB had a quiet auction and correctly so as the team is well balanced.
Hyderabad were the best of the lot when it came to bidding for specific skills rather than personalities. With enforcements like Pravin Tambe, Chris Jordan, Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan, Sunrisers once again look like the team to beat.
