From fat to fit: Celebs and their weight-loss secrets
Anil Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani, took the country by storm after he shed 108 kilos in 18 months. His obesity was a medical condition, caused by the strong medication he had been taking for asthma. However, the Ambani junior countered his weight issues the natural way, by following a strenuous fitness regime that included 21-kilometer daily walks, weight training, yoga and high intensity cardio, apart from following a strict diet.
While we tend to envy our celebrities for their fabulous bodies, not many of them started off being fit. Through hard work and determination, and by following healthy diet, a number of these celebrities have gone from being fat to being fit and fab. Here we take a look at their weight loss secrets.
Bhumi Pednekar: The actress gained appreciation for her portrayal of an overweight married woman in her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha. She had to put on a lot of weight in order to play the 90 kg character, but in just four months after the production had wrapped up, the young actress lost 21 kilos. She followed a strict diet regime, that she devised with the help of her mother and a trainer, which included drinking aloe vera juice on an empty stomach in the morning, and eating smaller portions of home cooked food. She also followed a stringent exercise regime, which consisted of morning walks, functional training, cardio and weight training, and played badminton and volleyball.
Parineeti Chopra: The once chubby actress wowed everyone as she flaunted her chiseled body in a sizzling photo shoot. Parineeti Chopra took a sabbatical post her last film, Kill Dil, to focus on her health and become fit. The actress, who is known to love her food and hates going to the gym, or running on a treadmill, revealed that her secret to fitness has been mixed workouts, which includes swimming and the martial art form, Kalaripayattu. She managed to move from a 38 waist size to 30.
Arjun Kapoor: The actor, who weighed 140 kilos before entering Bollywood, lost 50 kilos in four years. Motivated by his fitness mentor Salman Khan, Arjun Kapoor followed a strenuous weight loss regime which included Cross Fit training, cardio, circuit training, weight training and a strict diet plan, where he cut off all junk food, sweets and sugar and took to healthy, home-made food.
Sonakshi Sinha: Sonakshi Sinha had to lose 30 kilos in order to get into the role of Rajjo, in her debut film, Dabaang. The actress, who has been constantly body shamed for being on the plumper side, managed to shed all those extra kilos by following a strict workout regime, which consisted of cardio, weight training, cycling, functional training and hot yoga. She also cut down on junk – one of the biggest challenges for her – and stuck to whole-wheat grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean meat such as chicken and fish.
Adnan Sami: The Pakistani singer weighed a scary 206 kilos, and couldn’t walk five steps without stopping. It was when his doctor gave him the ultimatum that he could suffer a cardiac arrest in six months time, that he took matters in his hands and did the impossible. Adnan Sami lost 145 kilos in a year, without going under the knife. Apart from working out, Sami stuck to a high protein, no oil, no fat, no sugar diet, which was designed with the help of a doctor and nutritionist.
Kareena Kapoor: The size zero actress, who wowed everyone with her stunning body in Tashan, wasn’t always this fit. Kareena Kapoor managed to shed all the extra kilos by following a strictly vegetarian, no sugar, no fat diet, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, and following a strict regime of cardio exercise and power yoga.
Sonam Kapoor: The fashionable actress, who is known more for her fashion sense than her films, once weighed around 86 kilos. Sonam Kapoor lost 30 kilos to prepare for her role in her debut film, Saawariya. Her exercise regime consisted of weight training, pilates, yoga and Kathak training.
Alia Bhatt: Alia Bhatt lost 16 kilos for her debut role in the film, Student of the Year. The once chubby actress followed a low-carb, high protein diet, and cut down on all junk and unhealthy food. She also stuck to a strenuous workout regime and practiced sports such as kick-boxing, swimming and altitude training,
Zareen Khan: Fighting childhood obesity, caused primarily by eating junk food, actress Zarine Khan went from 100 kilos to 55 kilos at the age of 18. She lost 45 kilos in a year by overhauling her diet, exercising and walking. She maintains her weight by doing half an hour of Pilates every day, does weight training, swimming and cardio.
Jackky Bhagnani: When Jackky Bhagnani approached his father, Vashu Bhagnani, to cast him in a film, the youngster weighed a whopping 130 kilos. His father started laughing at him, and that is what motivated the actor to shed all those extra kilos. The actor went through a stringent exercise regime and followed a diet plan to lost 60 kilos in two years.
